                  Hooked up!!

A says, "Nice DP!"...B says ," TYSM ya!" A says," Hey! Did you tag me in the selfie u posted on FB?" B says, " Yep and checked in as well. Btw I kpt it on Instagram also. Come on Snap chat man!" If you are familiar with these terminologies and shortforms you too have your head down in your cell phone, liking, sharing, uploading, following and checking out the new virus in town named " Social Network".
Social media has excelled in every corner of the world and in every field, from education to politics, from entertainment to reality, from President Obama to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A recent survey on times.com says that 3.2 billion people are now using the internet. Google is my second brain, as we can't do without it. We all are hooked up in this virtual real timeline. Just like a coin, it has its pros and cons.
I have few queries in my mind. Is it important to upload a selfie just for likes or show the world that how cool we are? Are we spending more time on social channels instead of quality time with our family members? Do we keep checking our phones instantly when we hear a chat notification? And the most important, " Can we live without the virtual world and its applications?"
The younger generations are being provided by all gadgets and freedom so generously that it becomes their necessity and status amongst friends. The pictures and videos that we upload on such social medias could be misused and tampered. Once on the web, it could be viewed by anyone and people can interpret in any manner they want. It could project our personalities in a negative way as well.
The good news is that we can advertise and market our business or a social cause or post and read many informational articles that could be helpful in our day to day lives. We are hooked up for tracking our marathon practice sessions or ask siri to set up the alarm. Hook up to complete our banking while sitting at home or download worksheets and lesson plans for our classroom activities. Sometimes hooking up is acceptable and beneficial, but it has become an addiction.
People in western countries actually lock themselves up in their toilets for hours to keep themselves away from their cell phones. Divorce cases are filed all thanks to whatsapp and facebook. Rehabilitation centres are the new refuges for these addicts of 3g and 4g organisms. Seeing friends' updates and pictures is actually creating depression in others who couldn't manage a get away for themselves. Low hearing, weak reflexes, hazzy vision, far sightedness and low IQ are just a few hazards of "Hooking Up " more than required.
Lets lessen the use of our cell phones for a healthier family as our children would copy paste our acts in their lives. Read books for more information in real life, have a walk, do yoga, spend a vacation in a no wifi 3g 4g surroundings. Maybe this would be refreshing for our mind, body and soul.
